The material is non-flammable, non-toxic, and inert. No skin irritation has been noticed in over 40 years of production, even with daily skin contact. The product is safe for the skin and can be washed off with plain water. If contact with the eyes occurs, flushing with water will immediately relieve any temporary irritation.
